I also am seeing all these messages—no blank message, no .eml attachments.

What I do see, though, is that a lot of messages (on this list) come through with a message body beginning something like this:

You may be able to see this in the full contents of Vicki's message, which is included below.  Over and over.

At a guess, for whatever the reason, the list server is packaging the message contents into this .eml attachment, rather than putting them directly into the message.  Gmail is unpacking them (for me) and putting them into the message, albeit as a forward; but some of you are using mail readers that don't do that.  Hmmm.  OK, I just went and looked at the original message (as Gmail shows it to me), for Ken's original reply to Peter.  The message is mime-encoded, the first section (headers) being identified as Content-Type: message/rfc822 and Content-Disposition: inline.

At a guess (again) that's the cause.  It's a pain for all concerned, though.  No idea why the listserv would do this instead of just sending a normal message.

Of course, those who don't open these .eml attachments probably won't see what I'm writing, right?

Yes Ken, your reply was blank, with your intended text as an EML
attachment.  I violated my normal procedure and opened the EML or I
would have not seen your reply at all.
