You'll find a wealth of information at everythingdulcimer.com.  There are several builders there, as well as players of all levels of ability, from brand new to unbelievable!

Before I jump in with the many questions I have regarding the Hammered Dulcimer, I thought I'd introduce myself as I am new to the mailing list...

I've been performing and arranging music for many years for traditional orchestra, concert band, brass band and small chamber groups - mostly in the realm of church music. I play to varying degrees of proficiency over a dozen instruments, but am relatively new to the plucked string instrument genre (aside from violin and piano/harpsichord).

I'm an Electrical Engineer that grew up in the home of a Mechanical Engineer and have an interest in Accoustics as well. I also enjoy woodworking and have built many pieces of furniture through the years.

I've been unemployed for several years and so am limited in what I can afford to invest in instruments (not to mention an every-practical spouse of 28 years). I have wood, I have tools, I seem to have time.

I recently acquired my third Autoharp and while educating myself in the art of playing and building one enjoyed a number of recordings combining it with the Hammered Dulcimer. Although I do not own a Hammered Dulcimer yet, I have spent the past few weeks reviewing what information I could find (various books and internet resources) on the various aspects of designing and building one.

My eventual goal is to be able to add the Hammered Dulcimer to the mix of instruments being used for music during church services for the enjoyment of all.

I've searched the archives of this list for answers to some of my technical questions and found some subjects lacking ... hence my interest in subscribing and posing my questions to the greater list. I don't know what the general protocol of the list is, since there has not been much traffic since I subscribed so I will pose the questions assuming some of the makers may prefer to respond privately/confidentially ... we'll see.

Thanks, looking forward to a successful journey.
