The familiar tune (ie - the one in the Methodist hymnal) is by James R.
Murray; another tune is called the Cradle Hymn by William Kirkpatrick; and
the third tune is Flow Gently, Sweet Afton by Alexander Hume. However, it
isn't the full version of Flow Gently.

Larry Conger did a medley of the three tunes in his Christmas Duets book for
mountain dulcimer.

In the back of my mind, I always thought there were three tunes used for
Away in a Manger but could never find but two commonly used in the USA. Bob
mentioned liking to play a medley in two or three of the commonly used tunes
for that song. Two of them are in Linda Thompson's Christmas book, one to
the tune of Flow Gently, Sweet Afton. Could someone please remind me of the
tune for the third one?
Janis
